Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children’s TYLENOL® National Child Care Teacher Awards™
Top Ten Winners to Receive Books from the Helene Marks Early Start Foundation
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA, February 10, 2009 – The Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation (TLLCCF) through an initiative with the Helene Marks Early Start Foundation (HMESF) announced that the child care teacher who receives the Helene Marks Award as the National Child Care Teacher of the Year and the nine runners up of the 2009 Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children’s TYLENOL® National Child Care Teacher Awards™ will receive a complete library of books.
The HMESF will provide a combination of bilingual books, Spanish and English, to child care teachers and/or home providers who receive a high score that places them in the top ten of the TLLCCF National Child Care Teacher Awards. Each winner will receive for their classroom a collection of 45 to 50 books for children ages birth to age three. The book list was developed by the HMESF strategic planning committee with the guidance of child care experts Dr. Dana Friedman, executive director of The Early Years Institute, Nancy Kolben, executive director of Childcare Inc. and Keri Repetto of Kaplan Early Learning.
“The Helene Marks Early Start Foundation is very pleased to continue supporting the Helene Marks Award signifying them as the National Child Care Teacher of the Year. My mother worked tirelessly to improve the quality of child care. It was her dream that all children should have access to high-quality child care. HMESF will continue to work to keep her dream alive. The HMESF Library donation to the Teacher Awards is part of our first initiatives aimed at providing children with a healthy learning environment,” stated Jaime Marks, president of the Helene Marks Early Start Foundation.
The Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children’s TYLENOL National Child Care Teacher Awards are presented annually each spring to 50 child care teachers. The award program recognizes excellence in early care and education and raises the awareness of the importance of qualified, dedicated child care teachers and providers. The recipients are selected based on an application and an educational, age-appropriate project they designed to be implemented in their classroom.
These 50 exemplary early care and education providers were chosen for their commitment to maintaining high-quality child care practices and dedication to the children they teach. Winners will be honored at an Awards Ceremony that will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in King of Prussia, PA, located in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
The top 10 scorers answer an additional essay question to qualify for the Foundation’s Helene Marks Award™ and named the National Child Care Teacher of the Year™. The Child Care Teacher of the Year receives an additional $1000 award.
From the inception of the Teacher Awards program in 1994, the TLLCCF has presented 535 awards totaling more than $506,000 to early care and education providers for their dedication and excellence in providing quality child care.
